Developed over an eighteen-month workshop process from its origins as an oratorio into a fully staged world premiere, A Nation of Others was presented by UK Opera Theatre as part of its Telling America’s Stories series. Set at Ellis Island in 1921, the opera follows immigrants at the threshold of a new life in America.
The projection design helped shape the visual world of arrival, inspection, and passage, integrating English and Spanish projected text into the storytelling while supporting the opera’s authentic themes of hope and transition by relying on primary source documents pulled from the Ellis Island archives and the family records of our own singers.
