This world premiere by Tara L. Wilson Noth follows a grieving attorney who takes on the pro bono defense of a Black teenager accused of murder, forcing a confrontation with marriage, race, loss, and the stories people tell themselves in order to survive their choices. Presented by Berkshire Theatre Group at the Unicorn Theatre and directed by Kimille Howard, the production was a National Endowment for the Arts Grants for Arts Projects award recipient.
Working on a spare scenic environment, David Murakami’s projection design used photographs, graphic fragments, written messages, and deep architectural perspective to shift between office, memory, interior life, and broader social context. The projections served as both storytelling texture and scenic extension, giving the production a larger visual field while preserving the focus on the actors.
